We Must Be Filled

The Holy Spirit has a purpose and we are included.

With the shape of the world we live in today the Spirit of God has to be our guide, there is no other option. It is the will of God for His children to be filled with the Spirit, and not lacking in any circumstance. The Spirit longs to comfort the saved and give power for every single step. You, Me, We together must let Him take control!

Golden Text: Rom 8:9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Question: which one do you walk in? The Spirit or the flesh?

Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

…….Do you struggle with the guilt of the past? The remedy; walk in the Spirit.

Do you struggle with the sins of the present? The remedy; get filled with the Spirit so you can walk in the Spirit.

Rom 8:2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

…….The Old Testament shows to us our sins and the consequence of our sin, but the Spirit through Jesus Christ demolishes the consequence by freeing us from guilt of the past.

Rom 8:3  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

…….The law can never look at your flesh and condemn the sin that it cannot see, while Jesus can look into a persons life and read it like a book! Jesus knows! We may forget and try to put it out of our mind at times, but Jesus knows!

Rom 8:4  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

…….while the law cannot cause righteousness, when we walk after the Spirit our life will be patterned to the righteousness of the law.

Rom 8:5  For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

…….There is no easier explanation of this. When you walk after the flesh you will mess up, but when you walk after the Spirit, you will remain spiritual.

Rom 8:6  For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

…….Do you want condemnation? Then don’t change a thing. Don’t read your Bible, don’t pray, don’t testify of how Christ has changed your life, don’t be a witness to your neighbor, don’t fellowship with the believers, don’t take any of your problems to God.

Do you want to have life and peace? Read your Bible, pray, testify of how Christ has changed your life, be a witness to your neighbor, fellowship with the believers and take all of your problems to God!

Rom 8:7  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

…….Our carnal mind is enmity (or enemy) against God. It is a natural state from the beginning of time to be have a carnal mind. But it’s possible to overcome the carnal mind, but only through the Spirit!

Rom 8:8  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Rom 8:9  But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

…….What a promise! If we have been saved and confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ has raised from the dead, we have His Spirit! Every saved individual has a desire or should desire to please God. Too many times we find guilt in not doing enough for His pleasing. But what a relieving thought; we please God by just being saved and walking according to His Spirit!

Rom 8:10  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

…….There is no greater feeling than to be able to live being free from the death of this flesh! While being dead to this body, the Spirit brings life by living right!

Rom 8:11  But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

IT’S LIFE CHANGING POWER

The Disciples Changed

All throughout scripture, we can find Jesus openly rebuking his followers. These men walked with, ministered with and shared meals with Him for three years and still came up short daily. They were filled with doubt, pride and jealousy while living with the Son of God in the flesh. Their weaknesses, defects, sins and perversities all stand open to our view. The blessing of Pentecost wrought a complete transformation. They became entirely new men, so that one could say with truth: “Old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

When the disciples were Baptized by the Spirit, they were filled with power and gain the confidence to preach and heal! All their fears became stepping stones and they immediately preached Jesus Acts 2:14-41 (Peters sermon at Pentecost).

The beauty of all this shows us to what weak and sinful state of man the Spirit will come.

FORSAKING ALL TO GAIN ALL

Whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:33)

…….When Jesus spoke to the young rich ruler, he was giving direction as to what he had planned for that very moment. It is not a sin or out of the will of God to have possessions, as long as the possession doesn’t come between your relationship with God and what he has planned for your life. Just as the rich young ruler walking away sorrowfully, our true peace and joy only comes from walking toward the will of God.

Why did the rich guy need to give up his possession we may ask? Because they were simply in the way.

We must have the ability to and exercise walking away. We must be able to forsake the world in all its desires, its hobbies and addictions.

Forsaking all at first may bring loneliness but when we can forsake all, emptying ourselves of this world, bringing our broken pieces to Jesus, then will the Spirit comfort. No different than Jesus saying in Mark 2:17 They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. And in John 14:17  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

18  I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

He came to heal those that are sick and in need of healing, just as the Comforter comes to those who are in need of comforting.

Letting go of this world and it’s pain means grabbing on to eternal gains!

THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE BELIEVERS

The Spirit Will Undoubtably Bring Unity

Act 2:42  And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Act 2:44  And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

Act 2:46  And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

Act 2:47  Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Being filled will bring unity to every church that is filled with it. This is the importance of every saved soul to be baptized. Because the Spirit is so perfect at His job, he not only brings unifies the body but brings confidence to the ones who fill without! There are only two reasons that a saint would fill left out in a church; either the body as a whole is absent of the Spirit, or the individual in His/Her loneliness is absent of the Spirit.

Do you want to feel apart of the body? Then get filled with His Spirit!
